About durable eucalypt species
A select group of eucalypt timbers are renown for their colour, natural durability and strength.
The NZDFI has selected the most promising species from the Marlborough trials for the base breeding population being established in Marlborough and Canterbury. All species are highly prized naturally durable eucalypts. In some cases they have been logged to exhaustion from Australian commercial natural forests, with
remnant old growth stands now found only found in national parks, public reserves or on private land.
